Skills Course - What about this????

Ladies & Gentlemen: Wow - how did we get to the end of the semester so fast!?! Seems like we just got started...... Regarding the Skills I Class - We are finishing up initial foley check offs on this Friday 11/21 - and then we have NO skills class next week (Thanksgiving)! Many of you have asked about remediation - the rest of skills class time - etc.... We are scheduled (in the syllabus) to conduct remediation on foley catheters for those who need it on Wed. 12/3 & Thur. 12/4 with re-checks on Fri. 12/5. AND - there is an actual - real- class for skills scheduled for 12/3 & 12/5 - that last class does not have a check off attached to it - it is one of those listen - see - practice - take the information forward with you sort of classes.

I know many of you will be very concerned about enough time for end-of-semester study, finals, etc. - In the interest of time - and saving a little bit of it - what would you think of this?

We could all meet for the LAST skills class on Wednesday 12/3 from 8 - 12 - in classroom 126 actually - and finish up the unit on fall prevention, restraints, wheelchairs, etc....which won't take the entire morning....by the way. Following class, the individuals (from both skills groups) can meet in the lab for remediation. We can work on that as long as you need. Should there be individuals who feel a need for additional skills practice, we can borrow some time on Thursday 12/4 - but for the rest of you, that becomes a study day & review day. Then, everyone who needs to be present for foley skills rechecks can do so on Friday morning 12/5. That would finish skills class. What do you think?

Our final exam in Fundamentals is scheduled for Monday 12/8 at 8:30 AM.... Yes - I am working on the study guide.... and since the comprehensive part of the test draws from previous content, I will have copies of old exams available for review in my office ... these don't get to leave the "Green Mile" - but you can review them and refresh your memories.

Monday 11/24 Fundamentals class - Exam VI & lecture on Unit VIII
Tuesday 11/25 Pharmacology in AM & Assessment + ATI testing in PM
Wed - Fri 11/26 - 11/28 Thanksgiving holiday
Monday 12/1 Fundamentals class - lecture on Unit VIII (the LAST lecture!)
Tuesday 12/2 Pharmacology class (the LAST lecture) AM & Assessment in PM
Wednesday 12/3 Skills lecture/demo/practice in AM - followed by remediation on foley caths
Thursday 12/4 Clinical evaluation day - TBA additional foley practice by arrangement
Friday 12/5 Skills re-checks on foleys for those needing second ck off
Monday 12/8 Fundamentals FINAL exam 8:30 - 10:30 AM
Tuesday 12/9 Pharmacology FINAL exam 9:00 - 11:00 AM
Wednesday 12/10 Assessment FINAL exam 9:00 - 11:00 AM followed by head-to toe ck offs
Thursday 12/11 Completing head-to-toe ck offs for Assessment

Friday 12/12 - the Christmas Break begins!!!!

I'd really like to hear from anyone that cannot work with this schedule - I'm trying to leave a little more study time and prep time for you on finals - email me or come see me if this is a problem....if not - we'll adopt this schedule. Hang on! You've almost finished the first 20% of nursing school!
